About David Gleave
I first became interested in making photographs of my own after visiting an exhibition by Manchester photographer Samuel Coulthurst. All of his images were made candidly at the street markets of Ancoats and Salford in the last years of the 19th century. As I gazed transfixed at the people, all long since gone, I became aware that somehow they were still alive.
Preserved for eternity by the camera. From that day on what I wanted to do was to find my own people to keep alive with the camera and make a photographic record of my time here.
